About Us

Links

About half of Siberians have naturally low levels of feline allergen (Fel-d1).  All cats, including Siberians, produce some allergen.

Saliva testing is more reliable than fur tests, but cats that do not produce enough saliva for accurate analysis can be tested using fur.

Several catteries have worked with Siberian Research, Inc to establish reference ranges for allergen levels in Siberians. In general, many Siberians test lower than other breeds.

Saliva test range in Siberians: 0.5 mcg - 27.9 mcg  (low allergen for saliva is under 5.0 mcg )
Fur test range in Siberians: 20 mcg - 326 mcg  (low allergen for fur is under 80 mcg)

Our Tests Results & Breeding Notes.

Windrifter Larisa of Lundberg - saliva low 2.4 mcg
Lundberg Mariposa Taigovna - saliva low 0.7 mcg
Kaleriia Wings of Lundberg - saliva not available.  (fur test low at 21.4 mcg)
Asthera Jenika of Lundberg - saliva moderate 15.5 mcg ~ see notes below
Birchgrove Tolya Taigovich - saliva elevated 8.7 mcg ~ retired from breeding
Birchgrove Kiska of Lundberg - saliva moderate 16.6 mcg ~ retired from breeding

Kaleriia Wings:  We have tried several times to test saliva levels in Kaleriia, but she does not salivate enough to obtain a stable sample.  She has very low allergen levels in fur, and has never caused an allergic reaction in cattery visitors.  Her kittens place very well in homes with moderate to severe cat allergies.

Asthera Jenika:  This young queen has been saliva tested once, and the results were higher than we had expected. We would like to work further with her lines, so she will be retested this summer in an effort to verify the results. Visitors to the cattery have not reacted to Jenika.

BirchGrove Kiska: Allergen tests showed levels higher than our other queens, and Kiska  caused moderate to severe reactions in several cattery visitors.  She was spayed and given to a home without cat allergies.
